Diversity and Inclusion

"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."

— Martin Luther King, Jr.

Diversity and Inclusion

We strive to provide an inclusive and bias-free learning environment following the "Ten Simple Rules for Unbiased Teaching":

  1. Increase representation of historically minoritized individuals in teaching materials;
  2. Use representative images and examples, but avoid stereotypes;
  3. Avoid biased interpretations of research;
  4. Disentangle sex and gender;
  5. Adequately communicate and preempt controversial topics;
  6. Small things can have big effects [unconscious mindset issues];
  7. Avoid inappropriate jokes and images;
  8. Familiarize yourself with changing semantics;
  9. Provide positive, kind, inclusive, and encouraging feedback;
  10. Be open and embrace change.
